The Mizoram Excise and Narcotics (END) Department has made remarkable progress in combating illegal smuggling activities, resulting in the arrest of 48 foreigners involved in drug and alcohol trafficking. The department’s crackdown led to significant seizures of illicit drugs and alcohol, helping safeguard the community and generate substantial revenue. In 2024, the department earned Rs. 2,37,03,744 through fines, confiscations, and other receipts. Of this, Rs. 1,86,89,504 came from foreign liquor and spirits, highlighting the growing concern of smuggling across borders.
In terms of drug seizures, the department confiscated large quantities, including 46.680 kgs of heroin, 140.839 kgs of methamphetamine, and 578.592 kgs of ganja. These figures emphasize the scale of the illegal drug trade in the region. Additionally, 615.130 kgs of cough syrup/codeine were seized, showcasing the growing issue of dangerous substances being trafficked.
Under the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition (MLP) Act, the department seized 59,694.420 litres of locally made liquor and 3,662.400 litres of Myanmar-made BEDC liquor, alongside 29,856 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). The efforts also led to the confiscation of 142 vehicles used in transporting prohibited liquor. These significant seizures underscore the department’s commitment to fighting the smuggling of both drugs and alcohol, reinforcing its stance on public safety and law enforcement.
