Mizoram Starts Recruitment for Territorial Army to Fight Drug Trafficking
The Mizoram government has started recruiting for its first Mizo Territorial Army (MTA) battalion. This step will help fight drug trafficking and improve law and order, especially in border areas.
Recruitment and Training Details
The government will select 70 men for the first batch. These recruits will train for nine months at the Assam Regimental Centre in Shillong. After training, they will be posted across Mizoram, focusing on border regions prone to drug trafficking and security threats. The government plans to recruit more batches soon.
Strong Support from Central Government
Chief Minister Lalduhoma discussed the battalion’s formation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He thanked the Home Minister for backing the plan. Lalduhoma said this project will create jobs for young people and improve national security.
Role of Narcotics Control Bureau
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) also wants to open a zonal office in Mizoram. NCB Director General Anurag Garg met the Chief Minister to discuss this plan. Garg said the office will need staff who understand the local language and conditions. This will help fight drug trafficking better.
Mizoram’s new battalion shows the state’s commitment to fighting drugs and boosting safety. The combined efforts of the state government, central authorities, and the NCB aim to make Mizoram safer while providing jobs to local youth.
