Rising Tourist Footfall
Mizoram has witnessed a remarkable increase in tourism, attracting over 1.27 lakh visitors during August and September, according to the latest data from the Mizoram Tourism Department. This surge highlights the state’s growing appeal among both domestic and international travelers.
Domestic and International Visitors
Of the total tourists, 1,25,250 were domestic, while 2,208 were foreign visitors, indicating Mizoram’s expanding global tourism footprint. September alone saw reports from 128 accommodation units across 11 districts, with Aizawl District emerging as the top destination, hosting 112 international tourists through 59 registered establishments. Lawngtlai District also attracted a significant number of foreign travelers, particularly from Myanmar’s Rakhine State.
Key Entry Points and Connectivity
Major entry points for tourists included Lengpui Airport, Sairang Railway Station, and border checkpoints at Kanhmun, Bairabi, and Vairengte. Foreign visitors also came from Israel, Japan, and the United States, reflecting Mizoram’s growing international recognition.
Tourism Development and Future Plans
Officials believe the steady increase in tourist arrivals reflects Mizoram’s unique blend of nature, culture, and adventure tourism. The state is focusing on improving connectivity, hospitality, and infrastructure to further enhance the visitor experience.
