Drug Seizure Details
On Wednesday, Mizoram police announced the seizure of significant quantities of illegal drugs in Aizawl. In two separate operations, authorities recovered 40 kg of Methamphetamine tablets and 3 kg of heroin, with a total estimated value exceeding Rs 6 crore.
Arrests and Operations
Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte reported that two Myanmar nationals and a local juvenile were arrested in connection with the drug haul. The drugs are suspected to have been smuggled from Myanmar.
The seizures occurred during a coordinated covert operation by the CID (Special Branch) team. On Monday, two vehicles were intercepted at the Hualngohmun area on the outskirts of Aizawl. The first vehicle contained 32 kg of Methamphetamine tablets and 249 gm of heroin, valued at Rs 4.2 crore. The second vehicle held 8 kg of Methamphetamine tablets and 565 gm of heroin, with a combined worth of Rs 1.2 crore. The drugs were hidden inside the door panels of the cars.
Further Developments
A third vehicle involved in the operation, which initially fled, was later intercepted at the Zuangtui area on Tuesday. This vehicle was found to contain 2.2 kg of heroin, valued at Rs 68.5 lakh. The driver escaped capture, but a juvenile passenger was arrested.
Legal Action
The three individuals arrested, including the juvenile, along with the seized drugs, have been handed over to the Special Narcotics Police Station in Aizawl. They face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Foreigners Act. Investigations are ongoing.
