On October 12, Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati joined a virtual inauguration of 75 infrastructure projects by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), valued at ₹2,236 crores. The launch aimed to enhance national security and improve connectivity in remote border regions.
Key Highlights of the Inauguration
Among the projects inaugurated was the Ngengpuilui Bridge, a 125-meter-long structure located on the Lawngtlai-Diltlang-Parva Road in Mizoram. The inauguration was conducted via video link from the Raj Bhavan, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh leading the event from Sikkim.
Overview of the Infrastructure Projects
The 75 projects included:
- 22 roads
- 51 bridges
- 1 helipad
- 1 permanent accommodation
These projects have been strategically developed to withstand extreme terrain in India’s border areas across 11 states and union territories. The focus is on boosting national security while providing essential connectivity for local communities.
Project Pushpak Contributions
Among the projects, Project Pushpak, located in Aizawl, contributed significantly with two key projects:
- Ngengpuilui Bridge on the Lawngtlai-Diltlang-Parva Road
- North-South Road in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands
The Ngengpuilui Bridge serves as a vital link connecting the remote area of Parva, Mizoram, to the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Myanmar borders. Over the past year, Project Pushpak has successfully completed six infrastructure projects, including three roads and three permanent bridges, further enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities in the region.
