Former Mizoram Chief Minister and Mizo National Front (MNF) president Zoramthanga launched a strong attack on the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government, accusing it of corruption, mismanagement, and losing the trust of Mizoram’s youth.
MNF Chief Targets Chief Minister Lalduhoma’s Leadership
Speaking at a political training event in Lunglei district, Zoramthanga said the ZPM government, led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, had failed to deliver on its promises.
He remarked that Mizoram’s patriotic youth have grown tired and frustrated under ZPM’s rule.
“The young people of Mizoram are sick of this government. The ZPM came to power by destiny after the MNF lost the 2023 elections, but this is only an experimental rule,” Zoramthanga said.
He added that the government began its tenure with “a show of repentance” and amending the prohibition law, but has since failed to meet public expectations.
Allegations of Illegal Contracts and Misuse of Power
Zoramthanga accused the ZPM administration of illegally awarding government contracts to favored individuals and selling public land and assets without transparency.
He also criticized the poor state of Mizoram’s roads, claiming that even non-tribal travelers struggle to navigate due to the government’s negligence.
“The ZPM has told countless lies. Roads remain in terrible condition despite taxes collected for their repair,” he said.
Promise of Reform Under MNF’s Return
The former rebel leader and three-time Chief Minister promised that once the MNF returns to power, it will reform the system and reverse the damage caused by the ZPM government.
He urged party members to strengthen the MNF ahead of the next state elections, expressing confidence that the party’s “year of victory” is near.
“Voters across the state are watching closely. The ZPM will struggle to retain seats,” Zoramthanga added.
New Members Join MNF
During the event, Zoramthanga inducted 224 new members from ZPM, Congress, and BJP into the MNF, emphasizing the growing support for the opposition ahead of future elections.
