After the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, the Indian government has initiated the deportation of Pakistani nationals residing on short-term visas. This action follows a directive from the Centre and comes amid rising tensions between the two countries.

Visa Revocation and Deportation Orders

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has revoked all existing valid visas for Pakistani nationals. The revocation will take effect on April 27, with an exemption for medical visas, which remain valid until April 29. As a result, state authorities are moving swiftly to deport Pakistani nationals.

Deportation Efforts in Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, authorities have been ordered to deport 55 Pakistani nationals by April 27. These individuals live in Nagpur, Thane, Jalgaon, and Pune. The police are working to ensure compliance with the deportation deadline. However, authorities in Nashik are still awaiting official communication regarding the six Pakistani women living there.

Karnataka Joins Deportation Efforts

Karnataka is also taking action. State Home Minister G. Parameshwara confirmed that the deportation process has begun. Authorities are identifying Pakistani nationals, particularly those on tourist visas. Students from Pakistan will also be asked to leave. The state is following the central government’s advisory.

Bihar and Odisha Participate in Deportation Drive

Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, assured that the state is working to identify and deport Pakistani nationals. He emphasized national unity in the face of the crisis.

In Odisha, authorities have identified 12 Pakistani nationals in various districts. YB Khurania, the Director General of Police, confirmed that steps are being taken to deport them within 48 hours of receiving notices.

Response to Pahalgam Attack

The deportation actions come after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which left 26 people dead, including tourists. The attack has worsened tensions with Pakistan, leading to the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. India’s strong response aims to safeguard national security.

Compliance and Unity Across States

All states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Bihar, and Odisha, are complying with the central government’s directive. Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally called each Chief Minister to emphasize the urgency of the deportation process. These measures reflect India’s firm stance on national security.

India’s decisive action, including visa revocation and deportation, highlights its commitment to countering terrorism and maintaining national sovereignty.
