The Assam Rifles seized a large amount of illegal foreign currency and arrested one individual in Mizoram’s Siaha district, officials reported on January 19, 2026. The operation followed specific intelligence on illegal currency movement in the area.
Operation Leads to Major Seizure
On January 16, 2026, Assam Rifles set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) in Lungbun village, Siaha district based on the intelligence.
At around 11:30 am, troops stopped a suspicious vehicle at a road junction. After a thorough search, they recovered Burmese Kyat worth 1,40,82,000 and detained the person transporting it.
Authorities handed over the currency and the suspect to the local police for further investigation and legal action.
Earlier Anti-Narcotics Operation
Earlier this month, the Assam Rifles worked with Mizoram Police to prevent drug trafficking near the Indo-Myanmar border.
On January 2, 2026, during an operation in Kaifang, Saitual district, troops found 11.062 kg of Methamphetamine tablets, a psychotropic substance valued at Rs 33.186 crore internationally.
They handed over the drugs and the vehicle to Mizoram Police, Saitual, and arrested Hasan Ali, a resident of Badarpur district, Assam, in connection with the case.
