Churches Respond to CM’s Appeal for Peace

In response to Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma’s appeal, churches across the state held special prayer services on May 10. These prayers aimed to seek peace and harmony amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan.

Council of Churches Leads the Initiative

The Council of Churches in Mizoram (CCM), which includes nine major churches like the Presbyterian Church and the Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM), urged their member churches to offer prayers. The services were scheduled for Saturday evening or Sunday, depending on each church’s convenience.

Calls for Divine Intervention

Church leaders said the purpose of the prayers was to ask for divine intervention to help restore peace and reduce the current military conflict between the two nations. The appeal came in light of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the death of 26 people.

Widespread Participation Expected

While many churches under CCM held services on Saturday evening, others are expected to conduct prayers on Sunday. Even non-CCM churches are likely to join the effort, offering solidarity and prayers for a peaceful resolution.
