In a major bust, the Mizoram police and Assam Rifles successfully intercepted a cross-border drug trafficking attempt and seized heroin worth Rs 1.93 crore in Champhai district, located in eastern Mizoram. A Myanmar national was arrested in connection with the operation.
Joint Operation Leads to Arrest
On November 25, the Zokhawthar Police and Assam Rifles conducted a coordinated operation near Melbuk (Thingruang Kai, Uilui). The team seized 258 grams of Heroin No. 4, a powerful and illicit form of the drug.
Intelligence-Gathered Ambush
Acting on credible intelligence, Assam Rifles troops set up an ambush in the area. This strategic move led to the interception of a trafficker attempting to smuggle drugs across the Tiau River.
Heroin Seized from Smuggler
The joint team spotted an individual crossing the river on a Kenbo bike. Upon conducting a spot check, they discovered 22 soap cases containing Heroin No. 4 concealed in a white sack.
Arrest and Seizure
The individual, later identified as Vanbiakmanga (42, male), a resident of Webula, Myanmar, was immediately taken into custody. The vehicle used for smuggling was also seized. The contraband, the arrested individual, and the vehicle were handed over to the Zokhawthar Police Department for further legal action.
Ongoing Investigation
The authorities are continuing their investigation into the drug trafficking network and the cross-border operations. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement in curbing illegal drug trade in the region.
