Mizoram experienced a concerning rise in road accidents, with 112 fatalities reported, as per official figures. The state witnessed 124 accidents, underscoring significant challenges in road safety, the situation remained dire, with 423 accidents claiming 355 lives. These statistics highlight the urgent need for enhanced safety measures and better traffic management.

In response to this alarming trend, the Mizoram government launched the ‘Road Safety Month’ campaign to raise public awareness about the importance of responsible driving. This initiative seeks to address reckless driving and other key factors contributing to the high accident rate. The state has also been focusing on infrastructure improvements, vehicle regulations, and increased vigilance to tackle road safety issues effectively.

As of, the state’s transport department reported that a total of 399,290 vehicles were registered in Mizoram. This increase in the number of vehicles, combined with the lack of sufficient road safety measures, has exacerbated the risk of accidents. The government’s continued efforts to improve safety through campaigns and stricter enforcement are expected to yield positive results.

Ultimately, while Mizoram’s road accident figures are alarming, the state’s ongoing initiatives provide hope for a reduction in fatalities and a safer environment for drivers and pedestrians alike.
