Mizoram’s Excise and Narcotics Department reported the arrest of 7,309 individuals involved in drug and alcohol-related offenses. The arrests occurred in the state, which is known for its dry status, meaning alcohol is restricted. The authorities seized substantial quantities of illegal substances and alcohol during this crackdown.
Among the drugs confiscated were 46.5 kg of heroin, 138.8 kg of methamphetamine tablets, and 586.6 kg of ganja. Additionally, illicit liquor seizures included 67,911 liters of country-made or locally brewed alcohol, 16,768 liters of Indian-made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), and 357 liters of foreign-made liquor. Law enforcement also found 177 bottles and 36,535 cans of beer.
The department’s operations extended to pharmaceutical drugs as well, with the seizure of 7,523 Alprozolam tablets, 6,129 Nitrazepam tablets, 2,580 Diazepam tablets, and 4,119 liters of BEDC, a Myanmarese alcoholic beverage. These efforts highlight Mizoram’s ongoing battle with the illegal drug and alcohol trade, contributing to a significant increase in arrests and seizures aimed at curbing substance abuse and ensuring public safety.
